It's National #CSAweek! We're excited to celebrate It's National #CSAweek! We're excited to celebrate with other farmers around the country to help promote CSA.

Getting food from a CSA is different from going to a farmers market or using a grocery delivery service. Your produce is picked the very day you pick it up, at the height of it's natural season, ensuring the absolute best quality and nutritional value possible for you and your family. No extra packaging, transport, distribution centers, or time wasted!

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and is just one of the many ways that customers who believe in real, transparent food, can support their local farmer.

What’s the difference between supporting a farmer through a CSA versus a roadside stand? Or a farmer’s market? Why would a person consider signing up for a CSA instead? These are great questions. And everyone who considers joining a CSA should be asking them.

Ask yourself 6 questions before joining a CSA - find them in our latest blog! Link in bio 🥦🍅🌽

One of the things I love about our CSA program is seeing what our members make every day with our homegrown food. From beets and basil to sweet corn and watermelon (and everything in-between), our members make and share delicious meals, recipes, and ideas in our CSA community through our private Facebook group. If you've ever thought about becoming a CSA member and picking up a weekly share of freshly picked and nutritious veggies every week, now is the time to join!

This gorgeous tart was made by one of our CSA members using our chef's special recipe. All members receive a recipe book with Abma's own tried and trusted meals, along with a handbook packed full of information on how to eat seasonally, as nature intended, and how to store the fresh produce received. Become a CSA member this year and get ready for a foodie adventure!

Abma's Farm CSA starts June 1st and runs for 22 weeks.

Did you know that our nation's Founding Fathers we Did you know that our nation's Founding Fathers were farmers and ranchers at heart?

George Washington was quite the accomplished farmer (albeit one cherry tree 😉). The fields at his Mount Vernon home were filled with tobacco plants, until he realized those plants took such a toll on the health of the soil that he deemed the practice unsustainable. In 1766 he reduced the number of acres devoted to tobacco and instead planted wheat, clover, potatoes, turnips, and buckwheat. To avoid over-depletion of the soil's nutrients, he instilled a system of crop rotation (we still use crop rotation today as a great way of giving the soil a break!)

John Adams grew up on his family's farm in Boston and often asked Washington's advice on the fertility of his land. In his young adult years, Adams wrote a horticulture column for Boston newspapers about farming and the benefits of growing hemp. For many years after, he experimented with composting ashes, marsh mud, seaweed, and various other organic goods he could get from Boston. (Today we favor organic leaf compost, but to each his own!)

Thomas Jefferson was one of the country's first agronomists and believed that man must work in harmony with the environment and protect it for future generations. He promoted contour planting (rows around a hill, not up and down the hill) and planting grasses and cover crops to protect soil from erosion. Jefferson is credited as introducing brussels sprouts, eggplant, cauliflower, and broccoli to American soil (which we love to grow too!)
